Borusan Mannesmann wins U.S. gas pipeline supply deal

Turkey's Borusan Mannesmann Boru has won a pipe supply tender for a natural gas pipeline project in Texas, Kallanish Energy's sister publication, Kallanish, learns from the pipemaker.

Borusan Mannesmann will supply spiral-welded pipes for a 368-kilometre section of the pipeline, the Borsa Istanbul-listed pipemaker says in filing, without providing details about the pipeline. The pipes will be produced at the company's Gemlik plant, with deliveries planned to be carried out in the current year.

The $173 million deal is the largest tender ever won by Borusan Mannesmann, it notes.

In 2016, the Turkish pipemaker won three deals to supply 24.5-metre long pipes for two natural gas pipeline projects in Texas and one in Mexico. It started producing 24.5m-long pipes for the first time with one of the US deals and became the first overseas company to supply 24.5m pipes in Mexico.

Borusan Mannesmann has a 1.1 million tonnes/year production capacity, of which 750,000t is longitudinally welded and 300,000t spiral welded pipes in Turkey. It also has a 28,000 t/y plant in Italy’s Vobarno that serves the European automotive industry, and a 300,000 t/y drill and well pipe plant in the US state of Texas. The pipemaker recently said it intends to increase its production capacity in Turkey with a focus on supplying the automotive industry.
