Total acquires London’s biggest EV charging network

French supermajor Total said Tuesday it’s starting a “new phase” with the purchase of London’s largest electric vehicle charging network, Kallanish Energy reports.

Under the undisclosed deal, Total is acquiring the “Blue Point London” from the Bolloré Group, with over 1,600 on-street charger points. The network will be powered by 100% renewable electricity, supplied by Total Gas & Power.

The oil and gas producer aims to own a portfolio of 150,000 EVs charger points by 2025, as part of its energy transition goals. The acquisition is set to position the company as a “key player in electric mobility in Europe,” Total said in a statement.

Total is one of the leading oil and gas operators in the UK, producing 189,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (Boe/d) in 2019. It’s also a major supplier of gas and electricity to business and public sector, with downstream activities complemented by the marketing of petroleum products.

It has recently entered the UK offshore wind market, with projects off the coast of Wales and Scotland.
