A federal agency has taken the next step in developing a key electric transmission line to serve wind development offshore New York and New Jersey, Kallanish Energy reports.
The Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (Boem) is publishing what is called a request for competitive interest in the Federal Register today.
One company, Anbaric Development Partners LLC, has requested a right-of-way to develop what is called the NY/NJ Ocean Grid. But before the Boem can review the company’s request, it must determine if other companies are interested in the same area.
The company’s proposal would include the construction, installation and operation of an offshore transmission system to deliver offshore wind energy to the onshore electric grid.
That includes the siting of several offshore collector platforms, each connected to one or more high-voltage subsea export cables to onshore points of interconnection. Each proposed platform would be designed to handle 800 to 1,200 megawatts of offshore wind energy, with the ability to connect multiple offshore wind projects and accommodate phased offshore development.
If there are other qualified parties interested in the right-of-way, the federal agency could proceed with competitive procedures.
A list of qualified entities will be released after a 30-day public comment period.
